Sanbolic Announces Melio Latency Targeted Allocator for Flash Memory and SSD Integration -- Sanbolic Melio can now effectively be leveraged as the 'secret sauce' for highly available, scalable and distributed flash deployments.

Panasonic Toughbook® mobile computers are engineered to withstand drops, spills, dust and grime, and to perform in the harshest environments. Rugged reliability, low cost of ownership and accolades from reviewers are just a few of the reasons why Toughbook computers keep winning over the world's toughest users. Click here to learn more.

Sanbolic, the market leader in distributed data Relevant Products/Services management Relevant Products/Services, today announced the general availability of its Melio Latency Targeted Allocator (LTA) -- a storage management and performance module enhancement to its Melio data management platform, intended to enable cost effective performance, scale Relevant Products/Services-out and application high availability (HA) in mixed hard disk drive (HDD), flash memory and solid state disk (SSD) deployments.

With Sanbolic Melio, featuring the LTA enhancement, customers will benefit from a more flexible, scalable and highly available storage environment thanks to the incorporation of flash memory to accelerate their physical, virtual Relevant Products/Services and cloud Relevant Products/Services workloads. The resulting platform enables real operational value, as it increases performance by 4 to 10 times, while dramatically reducing capital and operational costs (CapEx and OpEx), without having to sacrifice the requirements of business critical applications.

While NAND flash memory can provide dramatic performance improvements across business critical applications, it can present challenges, including management and resource utilization, and a lack of high availability. Moreover, with most SSDs, customers are forced into making storage media choices that result in inefficient deployments, instead of enabling businesses to drastically improve their overall storage infrastructure Relevant Products/Services and application availability.

Sanbolic's Melio, featuring the new LTA, augments customers' IT investments and allows for the creation of an application-aware shared storage architecture Relevant Products/Services. Melio software Relevant Products/Services integrates advanced data and volume management capabilities, including: software RAID stack, rapid resource provisioning, snapshots, disaster recovery Relevant Products/Services (DR), quality of service (QoS) and storage live migration into a workload, hypervisor and hardware agnostic offering. The resulting solution enables customers to consolidate, protect Relevant Products/Services and manage physical and virtual workloads, enabling a more agile, efficient and scalable shared cluster of business critical applications across private and public clouds.

"With the launch of LTA, Sanbolic Melio can now effectively be leveraged as the 'secret sauce' for highly available, scalable and distributed flash deployments," said Eric Slack, Senior Analyst, Storage Switzerland. "By aggregating distributed server-side flash storage resources into a centrally managed 'softSAN' Melio extends the manageability and capabilities of these distributed deployments thereby enabling the adoption of server-side storage for cost effective high availability and scale-out environments."

"Sanbolic's Melio LTA module offers powerful HA and management features, so we are pleased to collaborate to ensure customers can select industry-leading performance from Fusion-io to power Melio," said Tyler Smith, Vice President of Alliances at Fusion-io. "While SSDs introduce latency that can slow down performance, the architecture of our Fusion ioDrive flash memory platform ensures customers can achieve maximum acceleration with Melio LTA and Fusion-io."

"The addition of the LTA module into Sanbolic's Melio data management platform will revolutionize how system, application and database administrators architect their data centers. It will allow them to ensure high-availability (HA) and eliminate the inherent single points of failure of server-side flash storage," said Momchil Michailov, Co-Founder and CEO of Sanbolic. "In addition, for existing environments the solution enables cost effective increases in performance, scale-out data management and quality of service (QoS) capabilities, in mixed HDD, SSD and flash in external and server-side storage environments."

The unique benefits derived from the Sanbolic Melio Platform, featuring the new LTA include:

  • Multi-workload, multi-hypervisor and multi-site support for maximum flexibility
  • Increased application availability through active-active access to critical data, independent of the underlying storage hardware
  • Ability to dynamically provision storage, data-protection levels and QoS to ensure consistent application performance and align with user-defined policies
  • Centralized management of resources to improve utilization and reduce storage-related costs and complexity

Sanbolic Melio software, featuring the new LTA is now generally available and priced at MSRP $9,600 USD (includes one year of support).
